BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — On Thursday, October 24, 2024, the Raleigh County Prevention Coalition hosted their “Feel the Warmth” event to give back to the community.
The Feel the Warmth event is aimed at supporting people who need resources.
Some of the resources that were offered included free coats, blankets, hot dogs, and drug deactivation kits.
In addition, the Raleigh County Prevention Coalition provided information about substance use prevention.
Michael Horton, the Community Services Manager at the Department of Human Services says the event is a partnership.
“Well, the Department of Human Services has partnered with the Family Support Center – last year in the summer and started talking about things that we could do to help our community, to offer our employees a chance to volunteer and to get out there and help people,” said Michael Horton, Community Services Manager at the Department of Human Services.
Kellie Gunoe, the Executive Director at the Raleigh County Community Support Center, said the event wouldn’t be possible without the help of local organizations.
“Partnering with the Department of Human Services to give out coats. We did a coat drive the last few months and so we giving out coats and hats and scarves and blankets to the community who might need them,” Gunoe stated.
Horton said he really enjoys being able to help people.
“I’m very happy about that. I’m always surprised that there’s so much need out there for small things like coats, blankets and that kind of humbles you a little bit better that you find that out. It’s it makes my staff feel good. We really enjoy helping people,” said Horton.
